100-30 Ireland defy odds to win in Vienna
IRELAND recorded a massive victory in their bid to qualify for the World Cup after a fine 1-0 victory away to Austria.
James McClean was the Irish hero, scoring the only goal of the game in the second half as Martin O’Neill’s men defied match odds of 100-30 in Vienna.
Marc Janko missed a simple chance at the death to snatch a point for Austria, while the other early start in Group D finished 1-1 between Georgia and Moldova.
Croatia were 2-0 winners over Iceland in Group I in a qualifier played behind closed doors.
Marcelo Brozovic scored both goals, but Ivan Perisic was sent off late on. Turkey also beat Kosovo 2-0.
England maintained a firm grip on their World Cup qualification group after their 3-0 win over Scotland on Friday and Coral rate the Three Lions 8-11 not to lose a match during the campaign.
The Three Lions are also 7-2 to win all of their remaining matches in the section.
It was another clean sheet for Joe Hart – Gareth Southgate’s side have not conceded in their four matches – and bet365 are 14-1 from 25-1 they reach Russia without being breached.
