Benteke backed to bag the Golden Boot

CHRISTIAN BENTEKE scored a wonderful goal on his Liverpool debut at Swindon on Sunday and he has been well backed to top the Premier League scoring charts this season.

The Belgian has been cut to 16-1 from 20-1 to outscore his top-flight rivals although Sergio Aguero remains a solid market leader at 3-1.

BoyleSports spokesman Liam Glynn said: “Our traders are reporting substantial demand for Christian Benteke and he is now the biggest loser in our ante-post Golden Boot book.”

Benteke is set to play his first competitive match for Liverpool when they take on Stoke at the Britannia on Sunday.

The 24-year-old is 11-2 favourite to open the scoring, 6-4 to notch at any time and 55-1 to bag a hat-trick.

Luton have been all the rage to win the League Two title and their new signing Craig Mackail-Smith is proving popular in the League Two Golden Boot betting.

CMS is best at 11-1 with Paddy Power but Betfred have already cut the striker from 12-1 to 8-1.

Celtic’s Champions League third qualifying round clash with Azerbaijan side Qarabag is expected to go ahead as planned on Wednesday despite doubts over the condition of the pitch in Baku.

However, Celtic assistant manager John Collins has said he expects the match to go ahead and has challenged the players to adapt to their surroundings.

Celtic lead 1-0 after last Wednesday’s clash in Glasgow and are 1-7 favourites with Paddy Power to reach the next round.

Bhoys’ striker Leigh Griffiths is expected to be available despite limping off with a calf injury during Saturday’s 2-0 victory at home to Ross County.

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris remains a doubt for Saturday’s clash at Manchester United as he battles to overcome a wrist injury.

The French keeper has been involved in parts of training but has not played since sustaining the injury three weeks ago.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is confident of keeping defender John Stones beyond the current transfer window but a move to Chelsea remains a strong possibility at some time in the future. Paddy Power bet on Stones’s next club and make Chelsea their 4-11 favourites.
