Betting suspended on Henry going to Villa

Former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry has reportedly verbally agreed to replace Steve Bruce as the boss of Aston Villa, and he is 7-2 with Betway to take them back to the Premier League at his first attempt should he take the job.

However, much still has to be sorted before the move is confirmed, including the future of current manager Bruce, while Henry is apparently looking for assurances from Villa's new majority shareholders that he will be given the funds to push for promotion.

Bruce is set to have crunch talks with the new Villa bigwigs on Wednesday.

Coral suspended betting on Tuesday morning after Henry was backed into 1-4. Spokesman John Hill said: "He has been very popular in the betting over the last 48 hours and it does appear as though they are just waiting for the ink to dry on the contract".

Henry retired as a player in 2014 but was Belgium's assistant coach under Roberto Martinez during this summer's World Cup in Russia and helped them reach the semi-finals.
