I'm expecting a Clasico at Pittodrie... well sort of
IT’S not called El Clasico for nothing. In fact, it’s not called El Clasico at all, which is a surprise to those hardy souls who were at Pittodrie on August 11 to bear witness to Aberdeen 0 Ross County 0. A true clasico of its kind.
Forget Barca versus Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, Tuesday’s all about another humdinger between the Dons and the, er, County in the battle to squeeze into the SPL’s top six and so trigger the unmissable prospect of a fourth fixture against the likes of St Johnstone. Three just wouldn’t be enough, would it?
Ross are in the box seat, a point clear of their rivals with a game in hand, but the clever money – and even some of the really stupid variety – is on the draw which would be Aberdeen’s fifth in the last nine.
It might even end 0-0; after all, six goalless bore draws is the least any self-respecting Dons’ supporter expects from their side. There’s a slight concern that Ross have won six of their last eight and seem to be pretty good but surely they’ve only got to clap eyes on Pittodrie, aka the Theatre of Dreams because so many paying punters nod off there, and they’ll sleepwalk into stalemate mode.
Meanwhile, Barca and Real Madrid meet for the 48th time in the past week-and-a-half and just like the previous 133 encounters between them, both sides will score.
