A double-result double can land a nice result
THERE has been plenty of late drama in the last-16 already with Chile's rattler against the Brazilian crossbar and Holland's remarkable comeback against Mexico.
However, on Monday I'm banking on Germany and France getting the job done early on against Algeria and Nigeria.
The Germans looked ominously comfortable in the group stage and they shouldn't take long to break down an Algeria defence who conceded against the might of South Korea, Russia and, er, Marouane Fellaini.
The Germany-Germany double result looks the best in this one and, although I'm wary of being too greedy, I might just double it up with France to be leading at half-time and full-time.
Didier Deschamps would make a brilliant primary-school teacher, the way he's kept all these temperamental French stars playing nicely together.
I even saw some quotes from Yohan Cabaye warning against the French being too arrogant – if I was Jeremy Clarkson I'd probably come up with an amusing, if offensive, punchline here. Fortunately, for so many reasons, I'm not Jeremy Clarkson.
I liked Nigeria's performance against Argentina but they were horrid against Iran and a bit lucky against Bosnia so this could be the end of the line for the Super Eagles.
Just to recap then: we're going for a double-result double. Result!
