Magpies league position is no laughing matter
IN terms of rousing pre-match press conferences it will be difficult to beat Alan Pardew’s real confidence-boosting speech to the media before Monday’s trip to Stoke.
Pardew said: “We’re Newcastle United. We are sitting at the bottom of the Premier League and we haven’t won a Premier League game.”
It was only last week Pardew was complaining about the Newcastle fans for their “mass hysteria” and then the United boss points out exactly why they have been going so hysterical in the first place.
The theory is that maybe Newcastle will be better away from the furious natives but I’m not so sure that rings particularly true and Stoke are the bet to record a first home success of the season following surprise defeats to Aston Villa and Leicester.
This Stoke team was good enough to win at Manchester City earlier in the season and ever since the Potters came up to the Premier League they have generally been a team to trust at the Britannia Stadium.
And as Pardew said himself, Newcastle are bottom of the Premier League and winless.
Mike Ashley said he was joking when he reportedly told a journalist Pardew would be sacked if they lost at Stoke but somebody should tell the owner turning Newcastle into a joke is no laughing matter.
