Hopefully Greece can finish the game in front

IT’S another thrilling weekend of Euro qualifying action and I can’t wait for…no, no, I’m sorry. I can’t do it.

I can’t pretend this is the most thrilling few days of football because we all know it’s a bit of a joke. But there are still some good bets lurking out there and that’s the main thing.

I fancy Greece to win 1-0 in Finland.

Is Finland a scary place to go? It might be quite frightening to the Greeks in the middle of winter, but I doubt it’s especially intimidating at this time of year.

I can confidently state that Finland is more or less the most peaceful place on earth, even though I’ve only been there briefly.

I spent a few hours in the mellow Helsinki airport after being flown to multiple airports around Europe during a hellish journey of Easyjet’s making.

It wasn’t scary in the traditional sense of the word, with a steady stream of fresh-faced Nordic people happily gliding around. The only frightening thing was the number of Moomins around the place.

You know moomins? Those weird Scandinavian cartoon creatures that look like hippos.

Anyway, the Finns appeared very proud of them and they were everywhere.

It was frightening in a “oh God, someone’s spiked my drink with LSD” way, but not really in a Galatasaray-style “Welcome to Hell” way.

Hippos can be scary, moomins can not and I doubt Greece will walk into a hostile atmosphere when they arrive for this game.

And Finland are not exactly in form (see? Not all my punting decisions are made around cartoon animals), as was proved by them struggling to a late 3-1 win over the Faroes last time out.

Greece have been a bit patchy but were superb in World Cup qualifying and should find their rhythm in this game. They’re not exactly high-scoring so I’m backing them to nick a tight one.

I’m fully aware that I’m gonna look a right moomin if they don’t.
