League One grind is a marathon not a sprint
WHEN you think of sporting marathons what immediately springs to mind?
For me it’s the Grand National. Or maybe the snooker marathon of the World Championship at the Crucible or the actual London Marathon but now we have got to add the European Championship qualifying campaign to the mix.
Sunday is day four of six in succession and fatigue in the Bunter household is beginning to show.
Mrs B just about survived the World Cup but even she knew that was relatively important - getting Lithuania v Slovenia past her could be a whole different ball game on Sunday.
Not even England’s trip to Estonia can whet the appetite, particularly as the misses knows I was on a Stag Do to Tallinn a few years back and one of the other lads broke the ‘what goes on tour stays on tour’ golden rule so all the wives know exactly what we were getting up to.
I will swerve that in case it brings up further arguments and the whole international card already has me pining for a return to domestic matters which means Barnsley v Bradford will be getting my full attention with a home win carrying the Bunter money.
It’s been a tough time for Barnsley since suffering relegation last season and they have taken some time to adjust to League One with 12 points from ten matches a poor return given the quality of Danny Wilson’s squad.
However, a game in front of the cameras could bring out the best in them and last week’s league win at Rochdale should restore confidence with ages left of the campaign to get back in the mix for a swift promotion back to the Championship.
After all, it’s a marathon not a sprint.
