Hammers happy to have their spot in the limelight
THE one thing I like about the West Ham owners and board members is how they are always happy to hide from the limelight.
For instance, you’d never see Karren Brady with a column in a national newspaper or David Gold interviewed with his helicopter in the background.
Those publicity-hungry Hammers are just about okay when West Ham are losing but they become unbearable when things are going well.
Co-owner David Sullivan was at it during the international break as he praised Sam Allardyce for playing “the West Ham way.” Hang on a minute, I thought West Ham were on a good run - surely the West Ham way doesn’t include regularly winning matches?
“We've signed some high-energy, younger players,” said Sullivan no doubt patting himself on the back for allowing the deals to go through.
“Last year I was being asked at various times if Sam would be going but my answer was always that we'd look at it at the end of the campaign. We're very loyal to our managers,” added Sullivan praising himself again.
It’s fair to see they are not the most likeable bunch - even the fans hate the manager - but West Ham have got goals in them this season with Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho leading the line and Stewart Downing has shone in Big Sam’s midfield diamond.
They look a cracking bet at Burnley on Saturday and backing them to win will just about be adequate compensation for the nauseating feeling when you next see Brady, Gold or Sullivan in the media celebrating another three points.
