The only statistics I need point to an away victory
IT’S a real big ‘will he or won’t he’ for punters to consider on Sunday with a key man potentially ruled out.
Never mind Diego Costa, I am talking about Burnley’s Dean Marney but even if he does come through his fitness test there is one bet for me and it’s Everton to win at Turf Moor.
Roberto Martinez was happy to talk up Burnley and told the Everton website: “I do believe they still carry a winning mentality from achieving promotion last season.”
Now I know honesty isn’t always the best policy but that is a rather large porkie from Bobby. Burnley have not won this season so they can’t have a winning mentality.
However, as well as Martinez talking up the clarets there was plenty of bullish noise coming from the Burnley camp.
Veteran defender Michael Duff said to the Burnley website: “I think it’s fair to say we’re not far away from our first win. Both statistics and our performances would back that up.”
Er where to start with that one?
The last time I watched Burnley they were hammered 4-0 at West Brom so performances certainly don’t suggest a first win is around and neither do the statistics.
Played eight, won none, four points gained, four goals scored and nine goals conceded in the last three matches against West Ham, Leicester and West Brom.
Whether I play up the Toffee winnings on Chelsea at Manchester United all depends on whether Costa is named in the starting 11.
If he plays then I will play Chelsea, if he doesn’t I will swerve the game completely.
Just like backing Everton, it’s the only sensible option.
