Go with the flow and back value outsiders
WE punters are always looking for an edge, aren’t we, and Jamie Redknapp could just have coughed up a little bookie-bashing gem at the weekend.
“There’s this thing in football we call ‘momentum’,” said the Sky man with a straight face, the impression being that this thing called momentum is a good thing to have.
Now obviously not being clued-up in the precise science that is modern-day football, I’ve not got a clue what momentum is. Which is why we’re lucky to have someone like Jamie on hand.
Two choices. One, head down the local football club and ask a few of the boys down there for a definition, or two, see if it’s made it into the dictionary. Chillax, jeggings and muffin top have, so I’m told, so hopefully momentum’s earned a spot in the OED as well.
Okay, okay, enough already. I’m sure it’s not easy sitting in front of the camera trying to be wise and worldly, and Redknapp junior is fairly slick at it these days.
But we all know what momentum is, especially Brendan Rodgers, who’d love a dollop of it. Unfortunately, the only dollop he’s got is Mario Balotelli, the Italian on whose shoulders Liverpool’s hopes may well rest at Real Madrid. That’s a home banker then.
Another team blessed with a decent bit of momentum right now are Ludogorets who’ve won four on the spin including a 1-0 triumph over Basel. So I’m taking them to make it five in a row by winning the return in Switzerland at a tasty price.
There’s this thing in betting, Jamie, we call ‘value’ and I reckon the Bulgarians are definitely that.
