Dead rubber can provide a live betting opportunity
The general rule of thumb for the final day of the Premier League season is to bet on teams who still have something to play for.
However, today that means backing Newcastle at odds-on or Hull at very cramped odds against Manchester United so I'm happily wading into the dead rubber at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace and Swansea have both had tremendous seasons but Palace's home form is surprisingly poor – ten defeats in 18 games.
The prices seem to be overrating Palace's home advantage – especially given that playing at home is actually a disadvantage to Alan Pardew's slick counter-attacking side.
Swansea don't have any problems away from home, winning five of their last eight on the road including a 1-0 victory at Arsenal last time out.
They defend well, keep the ball well and have a decent goal threat with Bafetimbi Gomis and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
And I'm even more keen on the Swans bet after reading that Palace keeper Julian Speroni is being rested for his testimonial.
Hopefully, Speroni's mates will also have one eye on that massive fixture and Swansea can end the season in style.
Then we can play up the winnings backing the popular Palace cat to score first in his tribute game next week. The proper football starts here!
