Quality attacks promise
a glut of goals at Anfield

On a day like today, packed with glorious football-betting opportunities, it's hard to know where to start.

You're better off keeping things simple, using your punting instincts and following the scent of over 2.5 goals to Anfield for the noon kick-off between Liverpool and Manchester City.

When I say 'punting instincts' I really mean Soccerbase's handy head-to-head tool which reveals that the last five league meetings between the red corner and the blue corner have ended 3-1, 3-2, 2-1, 2-2 and 2-2.

I can't see that sequence ending with a dull stalemate today, mainly because both teams' forward players are so much better than their defenders.

Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, David Silva and Samir Nasri up against £20m man Dejan Lovren and the out-of-sorts Vincent Kompany (the artist formerly known as a competent centre-back)? It's going to be one-way traffic.

Both teams were in European action in midweek so I'd expect to see a few tired mistakes creeping into the game and over 2.5 goals, over 3.5 goals and both teams to score look cracking bets.

If – I'm not going to tempt fate by saying 'when' – the goalfest at Anfield is over then I'll start considering the rest of the betting day.

At the moment, I'm keen to oppose Arsenal at home to Everton and Chelsea – at least in 90 minutes – in the Capital One Cup final against Tottenham.

But, like many a wise old football man has said over the years, I'm just taking each game as it comes today.
