Blues out to 22-1 for title after shock home defeat
CHELSEA’S title hopes suffered a massive blow after Sunderland came from behind to win 2-1 at Stamford Bridge yesterday and inflict the Blues’ first home league defeat under Jose Mourinho.
Samuel Eto’o gave the hosts a 12th-minute lead but Connor Wickham levelled things up six minutes later and an 82nd-minute penalty from Fabio Borini sealed a victory which boosted the Black Cats’ survival hopes and left Chelsea’s title dream in tatters.
Chelsea were pushed out to 22-1 for the title with Liverpool cut to 1-4. Sunderland were cut from 1-10 to 1-5 for the drop.
Fulham’s relegation worries increased after their lost 3-1 at Tottenham in the early kick-off.
Paulinho, Harry Kane and Younes Kaboul were on target for Spurs, who cemented sixth place but are 66-1 for a top-four finish.
The Cottagers dropped to second-bottom after Cardiff drew 1-1 at home to Stoke.
Swansea took a massive step towards safety by winning 2-1 at Newcastle.
Two goals from Wilfried Bony – the second an injury-time penalty – sealed Swansea’s first Premier League away win since November and lifted them six points clear of the drop zone.
Aston Villa extended their winless run to five with a 0-0 draw at home to Southampton. And West Ham are also looking over their shoulder after losing 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace.
Mile Jedinak’s penalty guaranteed a second season in the top flight for Palace, who were 1-20 for relegation in November.
The battle for a top-six finish in the Championship is hotting up after home victories for Nottingham Forest – 1-0 at home to Birmingham and Watford – 3-1 at home to Ipswich.
Forest and Watford are 14-1 with Paddy Power for a top-six finish, while Ipswich are out to 5-1 after missing the chance to break into the play-offs.
Millwall were eased from 10-11 to 4-1 for the drop after climbing out of the drop zone with a 2-0 win at Middlesbrough and Barnsley were cut to 1-6 after losing 1-0 at home to Leeds.
