Boothroyd's boys 5-4 to reach Under-21 final

ENGLAND are 5-4 underdogs to beat Germany in the European Under-21 Championship semi-finals on Tuesday after the knockout line-up was completed on Saturday.

It's a repeat of the 2009 final when Germany ran out 4-0 winners with a side that would help their World Cup success of 2014 with Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng, Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira and Benedikt Howedes in the starting 11.

The current German Under-21 squad is nowhere near as strong but Stefan Kuntz's side are rated as the 4-6 favourites to reach Friday's final where Spain or Italy would be waiting.

Italy's 1-0 win over Germany saw them sneak into the last four but the victory came at a cost with key men Domenico Berardi and Andrea Conti collecting yellow cards which rules them out of the semi-finals through suspension.

Spain are the 5-4 tournament market leaders with Aidy Boothroyd's England available at 5-1.
