Bury take advantage of Southend slip

BURY have been promoted from League Two alongside champions Burton and Shrewsbury after they beat Tranmere 1-0 and Southend lost 3-1 at Morecambe.

Southend went into the final day with automatic promotion in their hands, but now Phil Brown will have to lift the players for a playoff semi-final against Stevenage. Wycombe will meet Plymouth.

Six teams will go into the final day of the League One season looking to avoid the three relegation spots in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the division, but things are much clearer at the front end of the table.

Preston travel to Colchester, will be promoted so long as they match the result of MK Dons at home to already-relegated Yeovil with Simon Grayson’s second-placed side 8-15 to go up automatically.

Colchester are 1-8 with BoyleSports to be relegated because they not only need to beat Preston, but also rely on results elsewhere and it’s a similar story for 1-6 shots Leyton Orient.

They must first beat Swindon which is by no means easy and then hope for help.

If the betting is right then Crawley, who are 4-6 to slip into League Two, will suffer demotion on the final day, while Notts County can be backed at evens with the Magpies at Gillingham.

Crawley host fellow strugglers Coventry and the Sky Blues are 8-1 to head down to the basement division with Crewe 11-1 outsiders. Alex are at home to Bradford.
