Cherries cut for drop as Wilson is sidelined
THE worst fears of Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe were confirmed when a scan revealed that the club’s star striker Callum Wilson faces at least six months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.
A six-month recovery would rule Wilson out until April, by which time there would be only seven more Premier League games left on the schedule.
Wilson had started the season in superb form, scoring five of Bournemouth’s nine top-flight goals, and his injury is just the latest blow for a club who had already lost the services of high-profile summer signings Tyrone Mings and Max Gradel to long-term knee injuries.
There was a cut in Bournemouth’s relegation odds from 3-1 to 11-4 and they have been weak in the market for Saturday’s clash at home to Watford, easing from evens to 11-10 to take the points.
West Brom were trimmed from 9-2 to 7-2 for the drop after throwing away a two-goal lead in Monday’s 3-2 loss at home to Everton.
Albion drop to 15th while Everton climbed to fifth, one point ahead of Liverpool who they face at Goodison Park on Sunday.
John Stones and Seamus Coleman missed the West Brom game through minor injuries but both are expected to be available for the Merseyside derby.
In-form Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes has been recalled to Scotland’s squad for the Euro 2016 qualifiers at home to Poland and away to Gibraltar.
