Clarets cause 5-1 upset as tight defences prosper

GOALS were a rare commodity in the Premier League on Saturday with three of the eight matches finishing 0-0.

The most eye-catching of those stalemates was at Arsenal where the 2-7 shots were frustrated by an impressive performance from Middlesbrough. The Gunners are 11-2 to win the title.

In the early game, Tottenham drew 0-0 at Bournemouth while neither Swansea nor Watford could find the net in Bob Bradley's first home game as Swans boss.

Burnley's excellent home form continued with a 2-1 win over Everton at Turf Moor. The Clarets, who had beaten Liverpool earlier in the season, were 5-1 shots against the Toffees but a late goal from Scott Arfield gave them all three points.

Sean Dyche's side remain prominent in the relegation betting although Hull, one of their major rivals for survival, continued their slump with a 2-0 home defeat to Stoke.

And David Moyes's Sunderland were also out of luck as defender Winston Reid hit an injury-time winner for West Ham.

Moyes is 7-4 with Ladbrokes to be the next manager to leave his job but he is just 1-3 elsewhere.

Leicester had a much-needed win, beating Crystal Palace 3-1 and Liverpool saw off West Brom 2-1 in the final game of the day. Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho scored the goals for the Reds, who are 7-2 for the league.

Chelsea host Manchester United on Sunday and bet365 make the Blues 4-6 to finish above United this season. The Red Devils are 11-10 to win the match bet.

Defences were also on top in the Sky Bet Championship. None of the ten 3pm kick-offs rewarded backers of both teams to score and eight of them finished 1-0.

Leaders and 4-6 title favourites Newcastle were convincing 3-0 winners over Ipswich but Preston sprang an 11-2 shock by beating Norwich 1-0. The Canaries are 4-1 for the league with Brighton, who won 1-0 at Wigan, 10-3.

The big game in Sky Bet League One ended in a 3-3 thriller between 11-4 title favourites Sheffield United and Bradford (9-2). Scunthorpe are 10-3 while Plymouth, four points clear of Carlisle in League Two, are 7-2 to go up as champions.
