England drift to 10-1 after Wales grab top spot

ENGLAND have drifted out to 10-1 with bet365, BoyleSports, Paddy Power and Sky Bet to win Euro 2016 after they could draw only 0-0 against Slovakia in a result which saw the Three Lions finish second in Group B behind table-toppers Wales, who beat Russia 3-0.

Roy Hodgson’s side will now meet the runners-up in Group F - the betting says that is most likely to be Hungary - in Nice on Monday for the final last-16 tie.

However, whereas a group win would have possibly set up a quarter-final against Belgium or Portugal it is now likely to be hosts France in Saint-Denis should England make the last eight.

The result was a stormer for bookmakers as England failed to make the most of their possession with Coral’s David Stevens commenting “a 0-0 draw is about as good as it gets for us”, although there was some consolation for punters with bet365 refunding losing wagers in a number of markets thanks to their bore draw tournament concession.

Wales are 50--1 to win the European Championship and they will now meet a third-placed team from Group A, C or D in the last 16 in Paris on Saturday.

Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring, while Neil Taylor put the Welsh two up before half time and Gareth Bale put the icing on the cake after the interval.

Bale leads the Euro 2016 scoring charts after taking his tournament tally to three and he is 9-2 favourite with Paddy Power to finish as the top marksman.

Basement-boys Russia are eliminated but Slovakia’s four points and a goal difference of zero should be enough for them to qualify. Bet365 are 100-1 they miss out.

The betting suggests the two unlucky third-place sides will be those housed in Group A (Albania) and Group E (Ireland or Sweden).

If that becomes reality it means Wales will play the third-placed side from Group D which is most likely to be Czech Republic, France would potentially play Northern Ireland, the Group C winner (probably Germany) would meet Slovakia and the Group D winner (probably Spain) would play the third-place side from Group F which is currently the hardest puzzle to solve.

However, it would only take a couple of results to go differently on Tuesday and Wednesday for that to be changed such is the format of this European Championship.
