Posh maintain fine start
LEAGUE ONE leaders Peterborough continued their excellent start to the season with a 3-1 win over Port Vale on Saturday.
Darren Ferguson’s side, 6-1 third favourites to win the title, were barely troubled by Vale and deserved the three points.
Recent recruit Marcus Maddison opened the scoring and there were further goals from Kyle Vassell and Jack Payne before Jordan Slew notched a late consolation for the visitors.
Posh are on 15 points with 4-1 favourites Bristol City a point behind in second.
City dominated against injury-hit Scunthorpe but were unable to find a breakthrough until the second period when goals from Aden Flint and Greg Cunningham earned victory.
Fleetwood’s unbeaten league start was ended by a 1-0 defeat at Oldham, while Rochdale recorded a fine 4-0 away success at Crawley.
Yeovil overcame problems behind the scenes to beat Bradford 3-1 and struggling duo Walsall and Colchester played out a goalless bore draw.
Cheltenham hit the League Two summit but remain 20-1 to claim the title following a goalless stalemate at fellow high-flyers Morecambe.
Shrewsbury suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat at lowly Hartlepool, while four of yesterday’s ten matches in division four finished in draws.
York gained their first victory of the season with a 3-2 triumph over ten-man Stevenage and Accrington also got off the mark with a win by the same score at home to Tranmere.
Northampton and Plymouth recorded impressive away wins at Dagenham and Luton respectively. The Hatters are out to 33-1 to win the division.
