Morrison in the mood to claim second big success

BMW International Open - story of day three
Only six weeks after winning the Spanish Open, Surrey star James Morrison is on the brink of nabbing another big title in Germany, leading by two with a round to play and a best-priced 11-10 (but odds-on with bet365) for the BMW International Open.

The 30-year-old from Weybridge made life more difficult for himself by duffing two pitches at the final hole for his only bogey at the Eichenried birdie-fest but a 67 for 16-under 200 sees him nicely ahead of little-known Newcastle United fan Chris Paisley, who will be playing in the last match out on the main tour for the first time.

The experienced duo of Thongchai Jaidee and comeback man Peter Hanson, who has missed much of the last two years with back trouble, are third and fourth.

Morrison, who has suffered from Crohn's Disease since his teens but still played cricket alongside Alastair Cook for England youths, switched to golf at 16, getting his handicap down from 18 to scratch in less than a year.

Hexham-born Paisley, 13th in the Nordea Masters but with only one Challenge Tour victory to his name, played with unexpected confidence to be Morrison's closest pursuer as halfway leader Rafa Cabrera-Bello faded with a 74 (on a day when everyone else in contention was in the 60s) that shoved him down to a share of eighth.

Favourite Henrik Stenson, a past winner on the Eichenreid course, still has a chance in 11th place but, at seven off the pace, it is an outside one.

Leaderboard: -16 Morrison, -14 Paisley, -13 Jaidee, -12 P Hanson,-11 Del Moral, Larrazabal, Hoey, -10 Dubuisson, Aphibarnrat, Cabrera-Bello, -9 Stenson, Goosen, R Fisher, Stal, Dredge, Jensen, Horsey.

Best prices: 23-20 Morrison, 11-2 Jaidee, 7 Paisley, 14 Hanson, 25 Larrazabal, 28 Stenson, 33 Hoey, 40 Cabrera-Bello, Dubuisson, 45 Aphibarnrat, 50 Del Moral, 80 Fisher, Goosen, 100 bar

Final-round betting advice
Morrison is playing with terrific confidence and style as you would expect from a recent winner, leaving players of the calibre of Miguel Angel Jimenez and Francesco Molinari four shots and more in his wake.

Despite the last-hole blip, a loss of concentration when he took four to get down from 20 yards off the green, he is still strongly fancied to win, with ex-paratrooper Jaidee, alway tough when push comes to shove, his biggest danger, as the betting suggests. The Thai star looks an each-way bet to nothing with layers paying a fifth the first three.

Playing in the final twoball (at 11.40am UK & Ireland time) is new terroritory for the consistent Paisley. He's made nine out of ten cuts this year but posted only one top-15, in Sweden, and has not shot lower than 71 on Sunday which won't get the job done.

Irishman Michael Hoey knows how to win when he gets a sniff but looks just too far back while Pablo Larrazabal is a course winner who can also be expected to push the leader all the way but he's five behind and in the same boat.

In the twoballs, get with South African veteran Retief Goosen, a course specialist who's twice been runner-up at Eichenried, to outpoint David Horsey at 10.32, and Jaidee to deal with Hanson at 11.31. This was only the third cut the Swede has made in seven outings since coming back from injury.

His 13th last time out at the Nordea was easily his best to date but Jaidee's second place at Wentworth followed by a top-ten at Royal County Down is more convincing and missing the cut at Chambers Bay last Friday gave Thongchai more time and energy to prepare for this test.
