Hammers fancied to be busy on deadline day
IT’S transfer deadline day and it will be worth watching if there’s a bigger move than the one Manchester United look to have landed with a £36m bid for Monaco teenager Anthony Martial.
United, who drifted to 16-1 for the title after Sunday’s defeat at Swansea, have been chasing attacking reinforcements all summer and are discussing terms with France Under-21 international winger.
Martial was allowed time off from the France senior squad and the 19-year-old could feature in Friday’s clash in Portugal or Monday’s fixture at home to Serbia.
United are Ladbrokes’ 6-1 joint-favourites alongside West Ham to sign the most players today.
The firm quote 6-1 that the British transfer record (United’s £59.7m deal for Angel Di Maria) is broken before the window shuts
at 5pm.
Ladbrokes are also betting on which club will make the last signing (according to the last deal reported before the deadline on Sky Sports News) and make West Ham the 7-1 favourites.
Paddy Power’s market on most signings excludes loans and they make West Ham 5-2 favourites.
United have been clearing the decks in anticipation of arrivals with Javier Hernandez completing a £12m switch to Bayer Leverkusen and Adnan Januzaj signing for Borussia Dortmund on a one-year loan.
Chelsea were also active, bringing in Senegal defender Papy Djilobodji from Nantes for £4m deal while Victor Moses was set to sign a new Blues deal before joining West Ham on loan.
