Hosts France do enough to take group honours
France went through to the last 16 of Euro 2016 as Group A winners after an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Switzerland in Lille.
It was another ordinary performance from the hosts but they finished on seven points – two ahead of the Swiss, who qualified in second place.
Favourite backers were delighted, given that Les Bleus were 4-11 pre-tournament favourites to win the section while the
France-Switzerland straight forecast was no bigger than evens.
However, France are yet to deliver a truly convincing performance and remained 7-2 second favourites to win the tournament.
There was a surprise in the other Group A game with Albania clinching a 1-0 victory over Romania and keeping alive their chance of playing in the last 16.
Albania will have to wait and see if they qualify as one of the four best third-place finishers but Romania dropped to the foot of the table with just one point from their three matches.
