Jurgen Kop? German tops betting for Reds
BRENDAN RODGERS was sacked as Liverpool manager after a 1-1 draw at Everton and bookmakers believe Jurgen Klopp is the man to take over at Anfield.
Klopp, out of work since leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, was quickly installed as the odds-on market leader to replace Rodgers.
The German is 4-6 to fill the vacancy with Carlo Ancelotti seen as the other realistic candidate at 3-1.
It is 10-1 bar the front two in the betting and a Liverpool statement read: “Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch.
“Ambition and winning are at the heart of what we want to bring to Liverpool and we believe this change gives us the best opportunity to deliver it.
“The search for a new manager is underway and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner.”
Punters who had backed Rodgers in the sack-race betting – he was 5-1 ante-post favourite – were left frustrated after Dick Advocaat left Sunderland only hours earlier.
Rodgers is 20-1 with Betfred for a return to coaching at Sunderland, but Sam Allardyce is seen as the favourite by bookmakers to become Sunderland’s next manager following Advocaat’s decision to quit the strugglers.
