Koeman odds-on in sack race despite late penalty

Ronald Koeman remains long odds-on to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post despite Everton rescuing a 1-1 draw at Brighton with a 90th-minute penalty from Wayne Rooney.

The result leaves the Toffees stuck in 16th place – seven points adrift of the Champions League positions and three above the drop zone.

Koeman was cut from 4-9 to 1-3 in Paddy Power’s next-manager-to-go market. West Ham gaffer Slaven Bilic is the 9-2 second favourite while Crystal Palace’s Roy Hodgson is a 6-1 chance.

Brighton had looked set to claim all three points after Anthony Knockaert’s 82nd-minute goal – his first of the season – but the point leaves them level on points with Everton and Stoke.

Southampton twice came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw at home to Newcastle thanks to a double from striker Manolo Gabbiadini, who was recalled to the starting line-up.

Newcastle held leads after goals from Isaac Hayden and Ayoze Perez but had to settle for a draw which leaves them ninth – a point ahead of tenth-placed Saints.

Derby have been cut to 15-2 to win promotion from the Sky Bet Championship after goals from Matej Vydra and David Nugent secured a 2-0 home success over local rivals Nottingham Forest.

The Rams climbed to 13th – one place and one point above Forest, who have lost six of their last eight league games.

Zenit v Celtic

Home Win Draw Away Win
Key stats
  • Zenit have won 16 of their last 17 home Europa League matches
Expert verdict
Excluding qualifiers, Celtic have never won on the road in the Europa League in 13 attempts and that could spell trouble for the Scottish champions despite the Bhoys travelling to Russia with a fully deserved 1-0 first-leg advantage. Zenit should improve for the run after returning from their winter break at Parkhead.
