Kompany the latest worry for chasers City

MANCHESTER CITY kept up the pressure on Chelsea in the title race with a 1-0 victory at Leicester.

But for the second weekend running their delight was tempered by an injury to a key player after Vincent Kompany hobbled off with a suspected hamstring strain.

Manuel Pellegrini has said it will be ‘impossible' for Kompany to play again this year and City have a busy period coming up with four games before New Year's Day.

City remain three points behind Chelsea, who coasted to a 2-0 success at home to Hull.

There was no change at the top of the title betting with Chelsea remaining 1-2 favourites and City 11-4.

Leicester's defeat - their seventh in eight games - leaves them three points adrift at the bottom and five short of safety. They have shortened from 4-5 to 4-7 for the drop.

Burnley were pushed out from 1-3 to 1-2 after Ashley Barnes's second-half goal handed them a 1-0 win at home to Southampton which lifted them out of the bottom three for the first time this season.

West Brom eased their relegation worries with a 1-0 win at home to Aston Villa and have drifted to 3-1 for a bottom three finish. Craig Gardner on target for the Baggies, who registered their first win in six games against Aston Villa.

West Ham lost ground in the race for Champions League places, drawing 1-1 at Sunderland, and ended the day just two points above Arsenal, who won 4-1 at home to Newcastle thanks to doubles from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla.

Bournemouth took over at the top of the Championship after a 5-3 victory at home to Cardiff. The Cherries have shortened to 4-1 for the title but are on the same points as 11-4 shots Middlesbrough, who won 2-0 at home to promotion rivals Derby.
