McClaren 8-1 to make Premier League return

STEVE McCLAREN’S time at Twente came to an end when he left the club on Tuesday and Ladbrokes rate him 8-1 to be managing in the Premier League.

The former England manager has been heavily criticised in Holland for a negative style of play, while results have been poor with Twente winless since Christmas and they sit fifth in the Eredivisie.

Twente are 25-1 with BetVictor to win the Dutch league and McClaren said: “We have agreed it's in the best interest of the club. I leave a proud man to have managed Twente. It has brought me many good memories and one of the greatest days in my career when winning the title in 2010.”

Alfreton v Grimsby

Home Win Draw Away Win
Key stats
  • Alfreton have not kept a clean sheet in their last six matches
Expert verdict
Alfreton have won just one of their six games since being deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player and their slim play-off hopes could be ended by a home defeat to fourth-placed Grimsby. Staying in promotion contention for so long has been a good effort for part-time Alfreton but the wheels have come off in recent weeks and they may struggle against the Mariners, who have won four of their last five away fixtures.
