Portugal 5-1 for glory after penalties success
PORTUGAL became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of Euro 2016 after beating Poland 5-3 on penalties in Marseille.
Ricardo Quaresma scored the winning spot-kick for Portugal, who face either Belgium or Wales in the last four and are 5-1 to lift the trophy. France are 11-4 favourites, with Germany 3-1 and the Belgians 4-1.
Backers of Robert Lewandowski at 13-2 to score first didn't have long to wait as the Poland striker gave his side a second-minute lead.
But Lewandowski's new Bayern Munich teammate Renato Sanches equalised for Portugal before half-time and nothing could separate the teams in 90 minutes or after extra time.
The 1-1 draw in 90 minutes had been an 11-2 shot while the stalemate was well backed and went off at 19-10.
Portugal - yet to win a game in normal time at the tournament - had been 9-1 to win on penalties before the game kicked off.
