Poyet cut for Fulham switch after Brighton loss

THE managerial merry-go-round was given another spin on Tuesday with the confirmation of Roberto Mancini’s exit from Manchester City, but another name was at the centre of the biggest betting move of the day.
Just a day after his Brighton side were beaten by Crystal Palace in the Championship play-offs, Gustavo Poyet found himself the subject of heavy backing to take over at Fulham.
The Uruguayan hinted at reviewing his position follow Monday’s defeat and BetVictor yesterday cut him from 33-1 to 2-1 for a move to Craven Cottage where current boss Martin Jol is said to be under pressure.
Poyet is bet365’s 9-2 second-favourite to replace David Moyes at Everton.
Following Mancini’s sacking Manuel Pellegrini remains 1-5 favourite to take his place, with Jose Mourinho next in the betting at 5-1 and Rafa Benitez a 12-1 shot.
Mancini spent three-and-a-half years in the City hotseat – winning the FA Cup in 2011 and Premier League in 2011-12 – but failed to get the club beyond the Champions League group stage in two cracks at Europe’s premier competition and had highly publicised fall-outs with Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez.
His next move is uncertain but there may soon be a vacancy at Paris St-Germain if Real Madrid’s pursuit of Carlo Ancelotti is successful.
Coral have cottoned on to the possibility by making France’s Ligue One the 6-4 favourite in their market on Mancini’s next destination.
The 48-year-old is 7-4 to continue his career in Serie A and 6-1 to join another Premier League club.
City’s rebuilding project is unlikely to include one-time target Wayne Rooney, who has been cut from 10-11 to 1-2 with BetVictor to make a summer switch to Bayern Munich.
But the probable arrival of Pellegrini could signal a move for Malaga’s Spanish international playmaker Isco, who is 1-6 with Hills to join City this summer and 7-2 not to.
