Real 8-13 for Euro glory after joy in Germany
REAL MADRID are 8-13 favourites to win the Champions League after a remarkable 4-0 victory over holders Bayern Munich in Germany.
Real held a 1-0 advantage from the semi-final first leg in Spain and any ideas Bayern had about bouncing back were delt a serious blow in the first half when two headed goals from Sergio Ramos – a 40-1 shot to open the scoring – left the Germans stunned.
And it looked all over after 34 minutes when Gareth Bale broke clear of the Munich defence and fed Cristiano Ronaldo for an easy tap-in, leaving Bayern needing a miracle.
Ronaldo put the icing on the cake with a cheeky free-kick in the final minutes to give his side a 5-0 aggregate victory.
One big negative for Real is that influential midfielder Xabi Alonzo picked up a needless yellow card which rules him out of the final, but it was an otherwise incredible night for Carlo Ancelotti’s men and they can look forward to the final in Lisbon on May 24 against either local rivals Atletico or their former boss Jose Mourinho.
