Red Devils clinging on
in battle for top four

MANCHESTER UNITED still have the edge in the battle to finish in the top four of the Premier League after a late 1-0 victory at Newcastle.

The result capped an abysmal night for bookmakers, as all seven Premier League favourites won.

Coral’s John Hill said: “The six most popular teams in the Premier League all obliged ensuring another nightmare evening for bookmakers.”

Ashley Young capitalised on a woeful defensive mix-up to score in the 89th minute and the Red Devils are 5-6 with bet365 for a top-four finish, narrowly ahead of even-money Liverpool.

Liverpool were rarely troubled by Burnley and ran out 2-0 winners at Anfield thanks to goals from Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge.

Arsenal held on to win 2-1 at QPR and the Gunners are 1-6  with bet365 to seal their place in next season’s Champions League, while the Hoops are 4-7 with Betfred for relegation.

Tottenham are refusing to lie down in the battle for the top four and are 6-1 to creep in after beating Swansea 3-2.

A nervy Manchester City are just about clinging on to Chelsea’s coattails in the title race after edging out Leicester 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens are 7-1 with Betfred to win the title.

Chelsea, 1-9 for Premier League glory, won a hard-fought clash 1-0 at London rivals West Ham.

Stoke beat Everton 2-0 and the Toffees are now 20-1 to go down.

United defender Jonny Evans and Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse could face retrospective action after appearing to spit at each other.
