Red-hot Rooney on the mark to silence Scots
TWO goals from Wayne Rooney and another from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain helped England beat Scotland 3-1 in Glasgow last night.
Oxlade-Chamberlain – a 14-1 shot to score first – put England ahead after 32 minutes, delicately heading in an excellent deep cross from Arsenal team-mate Jack Wilshere.
Captain Wayne Rooney doubled England’s lead just after half-time and he sealed the victory with another goal in the final minutes after Hull’s Andy Robertson netted to briefly give Scotland hope of a comeback.
Rooney’s brace took his international tally to 46. He is 2-9 with bet365 to break Bobby Charlton’s 49-goal record next year and just 1-6 to end his career with more caps than Peter Shilton.
Elsewhere, Robbie Brady scored twice as Ireland beat USA 4-1 in Dublin, while Portugal beat Argentina 1-0 at Old Trafford and Germany won 1-0 in Spain.
