Rooney cut for goals after England retirement
WAYNE ROONEY has been cut to 3-1 from 6-1 with bet365 to score 15 or more Premier League goals this season after England’s record goalscorer announced his international retirement yesterday.
The Everton striker, who scored 53 goals in 119 appearances for the Three Lions, had been asked to return to the international fold by England boss Gareth Southgate for next month’s internationals after he slipped down the pecking order when his first-team opportunities at Manchester United had been scarce.
However, he turned down the offer and bet365 believe his decision can only benefit the Toffees, for whom he scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Stoke on the opening day of the season and then notched in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City.
His strike at the Etihad was the 31-year-old’s 200th in the Premier League and he is 50-1 from 100-1 with bet365 to eclipse Alan Shearer’s record of 260.
Coral are evens that Rooney scores at least 12 goals this season, with 11 or fewer available at 8-11.
Southgate will name his squad this afternoon for England’s games against Malta on September 1 and their home match against Slovakia three days later.
Watford’s on-loan Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah is one name being linked with inclusion in the party and he is 2-1 with Betway to be selected.
Former Hull defender Harry Maguire, who was snapped up over the summer by Leicester and scored his first goal for the Foxes in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Brighton, is 2-5 to be involved.
