Saints stop Spurs in St Mary's stalemate

Tottenham are out to 2-1 with Betfair to finish in the Premier League’s top four after a 1-1 draw away to Southampton.

Davinson Sanchez’s own goal put Saints in front before Harry Kane equalised for a Spurs side who had drifted pre-match to 5-6 from 4-6 once Hugo Lloris and Christian Eriksen were declared unfit to feature at St Mary’s.

The point was not enough to move 18-placed Saints, 5-1 to be relegated, out of the bottom three.

Watford have sacked Marco Silva following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Leicester and Javi Gracia is expected to fill the Vicarage Road vacancy.

Bookmakers have suspended betting on former Malaga and Rubin coach Gracia, who was swiftly reported as the man to replace Silva.

The decision to sack Silva came as more of a surprise to bookmakers with the former Hull coach still odds-against with layers to be the next Premier League manager to leave his current position when the announcement was made.

Expert verdict
Stuttgart, who finished last season with four straight wins, have struggled to get going with even World Cup-winning defender Benjamin Pavard unable to shore up a leaky rearguard. However, they can chalk up a first win of the season against Fortuna Dusseldorf, who also cannot keep a clean sheet.
