Spain and Portugal sneak through Group B
Spain and Portugal have reached the last 16 of the World Cup but only after a final Group B night of high drama on which they drew with opponents Morocco and Portugal.
Spain are 9-2 favourites for global glory after they secured top spot in the section, on goals scored, and a first knockout-round clash with hosts Russia but they twice fell behind to the Atlas Lions in Kaliningrad. La Roja had been 4-11 to prevail with the draw at 4-1.
Portugal, 4-6 before kick-off to beat Iran, were held 1-1 in Saransk after conceding a last-minute penalty following a VAR referral of a handball by Cedric Soares. Cristiano Ronaldo had earlier had a penalty saved.
The European champions are 25-1 to become World Cup kings, the same price as their next opponents Uruguay.
