Spurs 7-4 to go one better next season
GARETH BALE provided some final-day drama with a late winner for Tottenham against Sunderland yesterday but Arsenal held on to beat Newcastle 1-0 and claim a place in next season’s Champions League by finishing fourth in the Premier League, writes Michael Brear.
Bale struck with a 90th-minute screamer to hand Spurs a 1-0 victory in a frantic top-flight finale but the 23-year-old is 5-4 with Ladbrokes to leave during the summer transfer window, while bet365 offer 7-4 that Tottenham finish in the top four next term.
The Gunners got the better of their north London rivals thanks to a Laurent Koscielny goal but they failed to catch Chelsea, who finished third in the standings following a hard-earned 2-1 triumph over Everton. Bet365 offer 2-1 that Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal finish in the top four again next season.
City were beaten 3-2 by 10-1 Norwich but that was far from the biggest betting story of the day as champions Manchester United threw away a 5-2 lead to draw 5-5 at West Brom.
It was a shocking way for Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at United to end and unsurprisingly some were seriously caught out by the scoreline, which was the first 5-5 draw in Premier League history. There was £3 matched on over 8.5 goals at 1,000 on Betfair, but huge money was also traded on the Red Devils at short prices. There was £269,000 matched in-play at 1.01, with £312,000 at 1.02 and £5 at 510 on the draw.
Yeovil are 150-1 with BetVictor to win next season’s Championship after holding on to beat Brentford 2-1 in the League One play-off final. It’s 7-4 with Hills they are relegated and 2-5 they stay up.
The Bees, who missed out on automatic promotion in painful circumstances on the final day of the season, are 10-1 to lift the League One title next term.
