Top-class Klopp lads stun glum Gunners
ARSENAL have drifted to 28-1 with Ladbrokes to win the Champions League after being soundly beaten 2-0 by Borussia Dortmund in Germany last night.
It was an opening night to forget for the Gunners who struggled to cope with their razor-sharp hosts and they were somewhat fortunate to lose by only two goals. Ciro Immobile opened the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s side and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang consigned Arsenal to a Matchday One defeat but things went slightly better for Liverpool who struggled in their return to the competition after a five-year exile.
The Reds ran out 2-1 winners over Bulgarian battlers, Ludogorets, thanks to a last-minute penalty from skipper Steven Gerrard, but an unimpressive performance has seen them pushed out to 28-1 from 20-1 by Hills.
Liverpool laboured throughout against their spirited opponents but an 82nd-minute strike from Mario Balotelli, his first for the club, looked to have given the Reds an undeserved three points.
However, an error from keeper Simon Mignolet allowed Ludogorets a well-deserved leveller in the 90th minute before Gerrard converted from the spot after Javi Manquillo was fouled.
Defending champions Real Madrid top Liverpool’s Group B after thumping Basle 5-1 at the Bernabeu, while Arsenal’s group rivals, Galatasaray and Anderlecht drew 1-1 in Istanbul.
Balotelli is 40-1 to be the Champions League top scorer with Hills, while Cristiano Ronaldo is 5-2 and Gareth Bale is 25-1. The pair were both on target in Real’s rout of the Swiss side.
Last season’s runners-up, Atletico Madrid were beaten 3-2 by Olympiakos in Group A, which also saw Juventus ease past Malmo 2-0 thanks a brace from Carlos Tevez.
The Argentinian is 33-1 with Hills to finish as the competition’s top scorer.
