Trio go through despite losing final group games

EVERTON, Tottenham and Celtic were all beaten in their final Europa League group outings and only the Toffees will go into Monday’s last-32 draw  as group winners.

The trio were all guaranteed to qualify for the knockout stages before their sixth games, but none could go through in style. Tottenham lost their unbeaten record in a 1-0 defeat at Besiktas that was twice delayed by floodlight failure. The result gave the Turkish side top spot.

Celtic were edged out 4-3 in a thriller against Dynamo Zagreb,  where the lead changed hands three times.

Everton finished top of Group H despite losing at home to 7-2 shots Krasnodar, who secured their first win in the section.

Liverpool dropped into the second-tier European competition after a draw with Basel on Tuesday left them third in their Champions League group. Their tally of five points made them one of the four worst-performing third-placed teams.

Boylesports – Europa League:  12 Roma, Liverpool, Napoli, 14 Tottenham, Everton, Fiorentina, 16 Inter, Seville, 20 Villarreal, Zenit, Athletic Bilbao, 22 B M’gladbach, 25 Sporting, 33 bar.
