United go through in Europa after Ukraine win
MANCHESTER UNITED booked their passage to the knockout stage of the Europa League with a 2-0 victory over Zorya in Russia yesterday.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the opening goal – his first for United – and Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck late to seal second spot in Group A. Fenerbahce go through as group winners following their victory over Feyenoord.
Dundalk were beaten 2-1 by Maccabi Tel Aviv to leave them bottom of Group D, although AZ Alkmaar’s victory over Zenit St Petersburg meant the League of Ireland side could not finish in the top two whatever the result.
Having taken four points from their first two games Dundalk had harboured hopes of a bright European campaign but they were unable to add to that tally.
The Group F match between Genk and Sassuolo was postponed last night due to fog. Genk were already guaranteed their place in the next round but a win over the Serie A side will put them top of the group.
The draws for the knockout stages of the Champions League and Europa League will be held on Monday. BoyleSports are betting on which teams the three Premier League sides left in the Champions League will face.
