Vardy breaks record as United are held to draw

JAMIE VARDY defied odds of over 50,000-1 to break the Premier League goalscoring record as Leicester drew 1-1 with Manchester United.

The cumulative odds of Vardy scoring in 11 straight league games were 52,906-1 and he is as low as 14-1 for BBC Sports Personality market but the striker is still 33-1 with Sky Bet.

However, Vardy’s opener was later cancelled out by United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Manchester City beat Southampton 3-1. Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring, while Fabian Delph and Aleksandar Kolarov also notched for the leaders who are Betfair’s 21-20 title favourites.

It was a day of contrasting fortunes for the Premier League’s North East clubs with Sunderland beating ten-man Stoke 2-0, while Newcastle were humiliated 5-1 at Crystal Palace.

Newcastle are 11-10 to be relegated and the pressure is only likely to increase on beleaguered boss Steve McClaren, who is 4-6 with Sky Bet to be the next top-flight boss to leave his position.

Aston Villa, 3-2 losers at home to Watford, are 2-9 to be relegated  with Bournemouth at 5-6 following a dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton.

Junior Stanislas equalised at the death for Bournemouth with Hills saying it was a huge goal for them as Everton were the best-backed team of the day with 28 per cent of all football bets included the Toffees.
