Well-backed City stunned by hot Potters

CHELSEA and the bookmaking industry were the big winners on Saturday as both profited from Manchester City's painful defeat to Stoke.

Hills reported that 2-9 shots City were the best backed side on the day before they lost 1-0 at home to Stoke after Mame Biram Diouf's fantastic solo effort.

The Citizens are out to 13-5 for title glory while Chelsea, who beat Everton 6-3, have hardened to 5-6 shots.

Hills said Newcastle were the second most popular team with punters but they flopped at home to Crystal Palace, who are 13-8 for relegation after a late goal from Wilfried Zaha rescued a 3-3 draw in Neil Warnock's first game as boss.

Manchester United were less popular but their dismal start to the campaign continued with a 0-0 draw at Burnley.

The Red Devils are out to 5-4 for a top-four finish having started the season at 1-2 to return to the Champions League.

Louis van Gaal is 6-1 from 8-1 with Ladbrokes to leave his post before Christmas, while they are 4-1 that he doesn't last the season. Hills expect Danny Welbeck (4-7), Anderson (5-6) and Javier Hernandez (4-9) to all leave the club during the summer transfer window.
