Captain Kane 7-4 to break Rooney's record
Wayne Rooney's England career was celebrated during last week's against the USA but his status as the nation's top scorer is under threat from Harry Kane, who increased his international goal tally to 20 with the winning strike against Croatia on Sunday.
Kane still has some way to go to usurp Rooney's 53-goal benchmark but is probably still in the early stages of his England career and is 7-4 with bet365 to become England's leading scorer.
England manager Gareth Southgate reacted to Kane's efforts against Croatia in the Nations League by labelling the Tottenham striker "the best goalscorer in the world" and he has reached 20 international goals in 14 fewer matches than Rooney.
Captain Kane's heroics secured England's spot in the Nations League semi-finals in Portugal next summer and they are 5-2 to lift the trophy. The hosts are 3-1 with Switzerland, who eliminated Belgium, available at 6-1, while the final spot will be taken by either France or Holland.
Kane's goal capped off a memorable year in England colours for World Cup Golden Boot winner Kane, who has shortened from 3-1 to 5-2 in Coral's Sports Personality of the Year betting.
Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas is the 7-4 market leader.
