Manchester City smash eight goals past Watford

Champions Manchester City proved that last weekend's defeat at Norwich was merely a blip as they tore Watford apart at the Etihad in a ruthless show of strength.

Bernardo Silva helped himself to a hat-trick in an 8-0 hiding of the Hornets, who were five goals down inside 18 minutes. David Silva started the rout after just 52 seconds and there were also goals for Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez, Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin De Bruyne.

The scoreline was an 80-1 shot before kick-off with Ladbrokes reporting that just eight punters had forecast the Citizens running riot by that margin against Quique Sanchez Flores's men.

Victory helped the champions cut Liverpool's lead at the top to two points and they remain odds-on favourites to win a third successive Premier League crown. Liverpool, who travel to Chelsea on Sunday, are a best-priced 6-4.

Leicester moved up to third in the table after they came from behind to beat Tottenham in an action-packed lunchtime kick-off.

Ricardo Pereira brought Leicester level soon after and James Maddison completed the hosts' comeback with a superb long-range effort with five minutes left to play.

The Foxes are now 13-8 to finish in the top six and have been cut to 7-1 for a top-four berth.

Burnley and Sheffield United both moved into the top half of the table with 2-0 victories over Norwich and Everton respectively.

Chris Wood's early double was enough for the Clarets to see off the Canaries at Turf Moor while United withstood heavy Toffees pressure at Goodison Park to oblige at odds of 5-1.
