Spurs sink Palace at Selhurst Park

The domination of the Premier League's elite over the rest of the division continued as Tottenham beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

Spurs had to dig deep for maximum points with Juan Foyth's second-half header proving to be the difference.

There were a number of important matches towards the foot of the table but Huddersfield and Cardiff remain in the bottom three despite gaining positive home results.

Cardiff came from behind to beat ten-man Brighton 2-1 thanks to a last-gasp Sol Bamba goal.

Callum Paterson cancelled out Lewis Dunk's opener for Albion before the game changed on 34 minutes with a red card to Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens. Chris Hughton's side still looked like holding on until Bamba brought the house down with the winner.

Huddersfield were pegged back in a 1-1 draw with West Ham, Alex Pritchard opening the scoring and Felipe Anderson equalising for the Hammers.

There were also draws at St Mary's between Southampton and Watford and at the King Power Stadium on an emotional afternoon for Leicester, who paid tribute to owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha throughout the goalless stalemate with Burnley, in the first match at the venue since the tragic helicopter crash outside the stadium.

Newcastle made it successive Premier League victories with a 2-1 triumph over Bournemouth. All the action came in the first half with Salomon Rondon scoring twice for the Magpies and Jefferson Lerma on target for the visitors.

The big FA Cup first-round shock came at Huish Park as National League North outfit Stockport beat Sky Bet League Two team Yeovil 3-1.
