Braced for the weather to scupper my punting again

BRRR! Is that how you spell it? I was hoping to play a little bit of golf this weekend but, rather like the medium-term job prospects for Andre Villas-Boas at The Bridge, the forecast doesn’t look good.

Another band of snow showers sweeping the country just in time to sabotage a hack around the local pay-and-play as well as biff any life-changing lower-leagues acca that I might have spotted.

Minus ten it was somewhere in Yorkshire last night, probably Rotherham where they’ve got quite used to minus tens in recent years.

Premier League darts will take my mind off the impending white-out and at least it gives me an opportunity to get some decent punting in before all those dreaded postponements kick in on Friday afternoon.

I want to oppose Whitlock because he’s Australian and hasn’t learned to shave but that’s being churlish. He’s also playing Barney who’s form is plunging faster than the temperature. And the Aussies do tend to win when it matters – as does Phil Taylor so it’s a Whitlock-Power double for me and a warm, winning feeling to combat the icy chill of a dull weekend to come.

Obviously you can rely on the Premier League groundsmen to come good and save the day and I’m also confident that Chelsea will win at Everton, who are still incredibly ordinary despite a couple of decent results.

As for Man U v Liverpool. Dalglish can bring along whatever moggies he likes from the Anfield pet shop, the fact is they’re about as frightening as a pussycat right now and United will tear them apart.

B Munich v Chelsea

Home Win Draw Away Win
Key stats
  • Chelsea have scored two goals or more in four of their last six fixtures
  • Bayern Munich have kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches
Expert verdict
Chelsea have battled their way through to the Champions League final against all the odds and look decent value to lift the trophy. The Blues have rediscovered a winning mentality under Roberto Di Matteo and can take advantage of an overrated Bayern Munich team who were outclassed by Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup final.
