Weblog: The football punter
Here's hoping football can once again take centre stage
WHAT do you mean there's quite a big football match on Saturday? Why didn't anyone mention it to me?
This whole week has been so dominated by Fabio Capello's resignation that Manchester United v Liverpool at Old Trafford seems to have been totally forgotten.
In fairness I am quite glad we have seen nothing but Fabio in the papers for the past few days otherwise all we would have heard about was whether Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra shake hands.
Who cares?
What about talking football. You know the short of thing I mean – is Welbeck the ideal partner for Rooney? How are Liverpool coping without the injured Lucas? How many hamburgers does Charlie Adam eat before kick off?
I can only imagine that Evra v Suarez will be all over the box on Saturday so forgive me for ignoring the Old Trafford clash for a punt and instead it's QPR to beat Blackburn which is the best bet.
That Steve Kean chap seems like a decent bloke but his team keeps losing and that 7-1 tonking at Arsenal highlights the folly of selling Ryan Nelsen to Spurs and refusing to play wantaway Chris Samba.
Blackburn were never such a soft touch when Mark Hughes was in charge and Sparky can raid Ewood Park by leading Rangers to a vital win.
QPR, like Rovers, are also at the wrong end of the table but if they can keep 11 men on the pitch for 90 minutes their luck will soon change. Admittedly that's no given with the likes of Joey Barton in the side but there's no doubt in my mind the Super Hoops are super value.
And whatever the result at least for one day we can stop wondering which English manager will be knocked out of the European Championship at the quarter-final stage. Probably on pens.
