Moronic waving makes me a deadline day miser

Well, thank goodness that's all over.

Most people look forward to Christmas Day, Champion Hurdle day or the start of the football season, but February 1 can never come quickly enough for me.

All the drama of transfer deadline day. You just can't beat it, can you? Well, yes you can. It can be beaten by just about any other day.

But it's not the unsubstantiated rumours that come to nothing that really get on my wick.

Oh no, it's the people who take the opportunity to get down to their local football ground to wave at the camera, armed with their smartphone to tell their mates to switch channel 405 on as quickly as they can so they can see them acting like a moron.

Stoke's usually the best place for this, they love a bit of it.

But anyone over the age of ten who sees the 'slamming shut' of the window as an ideal chance for them to invade my living room should be put in prison.

I'm sick of the sight of them. I'm sure we could push a private member's bill through parliament in time for the end of August.

In the meantime, I'll just satisfy myself with backing Arsenal to beat woeful Bolton. You can trust Arsene Wenger. He hates the transfer window as much as I do.

B Munich v Chelsea

Home Win Draw Away Win
Key stats
  • Chelsea have scored two goals or more in four of their last six fixtures
  • Bayern Munich have kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches
Expert verdict
Chelsea have battled their way through to the Champions League final against all the odds and look decent value to lift the trophy. The Blues have rediscovered a winning mentality under Roberto Di Matteo and can take advantage of an overrated Bayern Munich team who were outclassed by Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup final.
