Appleton's Blackpool 15-2 to gain promotion

BLACKPOOL have been clipped to 15-2 to be promoted to the Premier League after Michael Appleton was announced as their manager on Wednesday night following an agreement with League One Portsmouth over his release.

However, the Seasiders, who won 2-0 at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday to move 12th in the Championship table but stay only nine points behind leaders Crystal Palace, are still 28-1 with bet365 and Boylesports to win the title and 6-4 to beat Lancashire rivals Bolton at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

The Trotters, in 17th, are 2-1 shots having lost, won and drawn the three games since Dougie Freedman was unveiled as their latest boss. The draw can be backed at 5-2.

In Scotland, Hearts have been served with a winding-up order over a tax bill amounting to around £450,000.

The club have confirmed the action by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and issued a plea for emergency backing from their fans - in the shape of buying match tickets and shares - saying they may not see out the month otherwise.

Tenth-placed  Hearts, who are 9-5 shots to win at Inverness on Saturday, are now 11-2 with BetVictor in the SPL betting without Celtic.

Key stats
  • There hasn’t been more than a one-goal winning margin in Newcastle’s last 12 home games
Expert verdict
Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United remain an enigma. They look defensively vulnerable, lack penetration up front and, at times, look totally disjointed in midfield. However, they keep on nicking victories, compiling a W11, D4, L2 record in their last 17 league outings and should do just enough to beat Newcastle.
