On His Own to be added to Gold Cup field
ON HIS OWN will give Willie Mullins a runner in next Friday's Betfred Gold Cup, as the trainer revealed he will be supplementing the ten-year-old for the Grade 1 chase.
Unbeaten in both starts this year, On His Own will be added to the field when the six-day forfeits and supplementary entries are made later on Saturday, and Mullins, writing in his exclusive column for the Racing Post, said: "I can confirm On His Own is being supplemented for Friday's big race.
"Having had to rule out both Sir Des Champs and Rubi Ball during the season due to setbacks, it looked as if we would not be represented in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup, but that has changed.
"After talking things over with his owners we have decided to put him in the race. He's had a good season winning the Goffs Thyestes Chase and the Bobbyjo Chase and has been in good form since his Fairyhouse win.
"We've been happy with what he has been doing at home, so we're taking the bull by the horns and are going to let him take his chance in the hope he can pick up some prize-money."
As a result of On His Own joining the field, Mullins added that Boston Bob, also entered in the race for owners Graham and Andrea Wylie, is now more likely to take in the Ryanair Chase.
On His Own is a 40-1 chance for the Gold Cup with the sponsors, with Bobs Worth the 7-4 favourite.
