Does JFH suit Burton or will Brewers now droop?

YOU know you’re getting old when players you remember banging in the goals in the Premier League suddenly pop up as manager.

It won’t be long before Luke Shaw is gaffer of Salford FC in the Championship managing against FC United of Manchester in a local derby match being played in Timbuktu and we will be asking the age-old question of where did the time go?

That was certainly the case for me when Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was named as Burton’s new boss. One minute he is banging in goals for Chelsea and the next he is managing a retail shop.

Headline writers all over will be loving it if JFH fails so they can get their ‘Brewers droop’ puns in. Or ‘Gone for a Burton.’ Or if he succeeds something along the lines of ‘Jimmy suits Burton.’

I do apologise for this but there is an awful lot of time to kill during the international break and it’s either come up with loads of  nonsense or speak to Mrs B.

Option two is not really an option so I have had plenty of time to research Hasselbaink and whether he will be a decent gaffer.

He seemed to do okay at Antwerp in the Belgian second division when he was anything but A Twerp and he is a big admirer of Steve McClaren.

You should always be wary of reading too much into what someone says on what style of play they want from their team.

For instance, I don’t think a manager in the history of football ever went into his first press conference and said something along the lines of “my philosophy is dull, long-ball football. You’ll absolutely hate me” but I found an Hasselbaink article interesting all the same.

In a recent interview with the Independent JFH said: "I like McClaren’s philosophy on football, the way his team plays, his faith in young talented players. He constantly analyses the way his teams play and has incredible attention to detail on and off the pitch.”

McClaren’s Derby play loving dashing football so it’s both teams to score for me when Burton head to Wycombe on Monday.

And Hasselbaink to use an umbrella is now trading at 1-100.
